Battery Company Charged up over God's Love
Interstate Batteries, the top-selling battery replacement company in North America, has launched a television campaign promoting God's Love. When watching the ad, most people will think it's an ad for a religious organization, but the final screen shows a website URL and the Interstate Batteries logo.
Interstate Batteries says right in its mission statement that they do their work to glorify God, and this campaign is just part of that goal. By going to the listed URL, viewers will eventually be led to a page with a Gospel message and the "sinner's prayer," popular among evangelicals.
Detractors may see this as a publicity stunt, but the company has a history of Christian outreach and charity work.
Perhaps the larger question is: Why does it take a battery company to do an ad campaign like this? Why aren't major Christian denominations running campaigns like this?
