Features on Mary are perennial favorites for editors looking for a religion-themed story before Christmas, and in the last few years many of these articles have focused on the increasing popularity of Mary among Protestants.

Lutherans have always held Mary in high regard. She was the first Christian. But we don't pray to her or believe she was sinless. Still, she's a great role-model. Many protestants have downplayed her just as an anti-Catholic reaction.
