• Misunderstandings about the African-American church

In the past two weeks, the news media have focused on the relationship of Sen. Barack Obama and his former pastor, who recently retired from Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. I am extremely concerned that the criticisms and characterizations of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright have brought to light some troubling misunderstandings about both him and the African-American church that must be challenged.
