"This allows you to get the chance to say, 'Wait, they really are related because their sequences are related.' We didn't get enough sequences to definitively say that, but what sequences we got support that idea," said Asara.

Seven tiny collagen sequences were similar, so they must be of ancestral affiliation? More to the point, note that this is T-Rex collagen they studied. Collagen cannot survive fossilization. In other words, T-Rex collagen should be impossible to find unless the T-Rex is only thousands instead of millions of years old. Oops. Forgot to mention that they had to rework their theories about collagen decomposition when this was discovered because the Tyrannosaurus couldn't be that recent, despite evidence to the contrary.
