The Husbands of Mary

(John 19:25) But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

Does this mean Mary had a sister named Mary? That's the suggestion, that Mary married Clopas, and they were really the same person. But if you look at the parallel passage in Matthew, there were 4 women there, so Mary's sister appears to be Salome.

(Matthew 27:56) Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

But that would indicate that James and John were first cousins of Jesus. So while there's no basis for this scandal, it raises some interesting information, anyway.
