Vatican places state of limbo in limbo

"Theologians of the Roman Catholic Church are recommending the abolition of a special place that has existed for more than 2,000 years and enriched the world of literature and politics, as well as theology. Pope Benedict XVI himself has given his clear opinion, as an eminent theologian, that he agrees that limbo should be banished."
Well, given that is had no support in Scripture, this is a great move, but it also raises the question, "When infallible popes contradict each other, which one do you listen to? It reminds me of the Muslim doctrine of abrogation .

The Papal Limbo Rock
To the tune of "Limbo Rock" (To be sung with tongue firmly planted in cheek)
Every baby in the world
Every baby boy and girl
Who don't make it to the font
Pope said they will suffer want
They won't make it to the Lord
Since their sins they must afford
God their souls will not unlock
They must do the Limbo Rock
Though it isn't in the Word
It's papal and must be heard
Word of God it claims to be
'Cause it's from the Holy See
At the mercy of the pope
All those babies without hope
God their souls will not unlock
They must do the Limbo Rock
Limbo isn't very swell
It's the highest plain of hell
But it maybe don't exist
If the pope does not insist
Since he is Vicar of Christ
Maybe he can make it nice
So their souls he might unlock
Purgatory's 'round the block.
...How low can you go...?
